Alwyn Projects was established by Dylan Farquhar in 2020.

Growing up  Dylan was obsessed with building. Dylan’s Opa was a builder who migrated from Germany and created a building company in Australia in the 1950’s where Dylan’s father and uncles would later come to work.

“I remember working with timber in my Opa’s shed in awe of how the spoke shaves and hand planes worked. It was at my Opa’s farm where I would soak up all the knowledge I could, forcing my way into any building project around at the time.”

Dylan’s passion for building saw him complete an apprenticeship in custom home building and renovation industry enabling him to work with various builders across the industry carrying out contemporary builds, extensions and renovations of period style homes.

“Being exposed to different styles of homes has furthered my passion for building. Being able to give an existing home a new life rather than rebuild from new is what I find most rewarding.”

After 7 years working as a carpenter, Dylan took a role as a site manager working within the medium density building industry which fostered a deeper understanding of building codes, standards, efficient processes and large scale collaboration, all of which culminated in Dylan receiving a certificate IV in building and construction.

In time this work fell short of Dylan’s hunger for craftsmanship and the reward of being able to give an existing home a new life, leading to the establishment of Alwyn Projects and the insatiable pursuit of restoring Melbourne’s existing houses into eco-friendly, sustainably crafted and stunningly finished homes.
